B002_C019_0614MO (2)Ron Bertram, Supervisor, Town of Hammond NY is the lead agent in the project. He is a lifelong resident of Hammond and second generation living beside the St Lawrence River. Ron is a supporter of community projects and of this project in particular as a means for the Thousand Islands Region to gain statewide recognition for its scenic beauty.

Valerie Johnson is the volunteer project consultant. She is a professor at Rutgers University and has been a resident of Chippewa Bay for more than 40 years. She will be available to assist with questions about the project and the survey. She has volunteered for the project since its beginning and will continue to help in public meetings, reviewing draft recommendations and providing information to communities.

The Project Advisory Board consists of more than 50 representatives from each of the town and village boards, as well as community groups and committed individuals from across the region. This group has been instrumental in participating in advisory committee meetings and providing thousands of hours of volunteer service to help provide data and information needed for the assessment.

Barbara Kendall  is a Coastal Resources Specialist with the NYS Department of State, Office of Planning and Development. She coordinates the local funding and implementation of the project with state wide standards and policies.   She has worked with communities, counties, state agencies and non-profit organizations in the environmental management field for 21 years, including initiatives pertaining to land use, watershed planning, greenway development, stormwater management and better site design.

The Consultant Team

logo-dodson-flinkerDodson & Flinker are the lead consultants responsible for determining the scenic quality of the region based on state-wide standards and local input.   The firm has been working with the NYS Department of State for almost thirty years, developing the state-wide assessment methodology and implementing successful scenic landscape projects in the Hudson River, East Hampton and the South Bays of Long Island.   The firm’s other visual assessment and preservation work includes scenic roads programs for Vermont, Nevada and British Columbia, a state-wide landscape inventory for Massachusetts and aesthetic reviews of large scale development projects including power plants, wind turbines, transmission towers and highways.  Harry Dodson is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects and a landscape planner with over 30 years of experience.   Nate Burgess is a landscape planner specializing in coastal resource planning.

logo-imcInteractive Media Consulting, LLC  developed the web site for the project.  Since 1996, Interactive Media Consulting, LLC (IMC) has designed and programmed World Wide Web sites for both small and large organizations in the Northeastern United States.  IMC has secured its position as a quality provider of web sites for small to mid-sized businesses and non-profits in the Capital Region and throughout the Northeast. Their  capabilities include: website architecture and design, website programming and hosting, custom scripting, and social media consulting.   IMC currently hosts over 150 websites, releases 10-12 new websites per year, and provides ongoing maintenance for many of clients.  Beth Moeller is principal in charge of the project and Emily Crawford is lead designer.

Engineering and Land Surveying is a multi-disciplinary engineering, land surveying and planning consulting firm with more than 34 years of experience.  MJ will be working with local Thousand islands communities to explore ways of promoting and protecting scenic resources so that future generations can enjoy and benefit from the beauty that characterizes the region today.  MJ offers community planning services to assist communities and private clients across New York State with their immediate and long-term planning needs.  Their staff has over 10 years of professional planning experience in land use, environmental and transportation planning. They specialize in public outreach, comprehensive planning, redevelopment of underutilized properties, urban design, neighborhood revival, trail planning, and waterfront revitalization.   Jackie Hakes is principal planner in charge of the project.
